If you’ve ever heard of Dr. Laura Schlessinger, you can imagine my surprise a few weeks back when I received a call from her producer, Kimberly Neill. “Dr. Laura read about Delaney and Addie in USA Today and she’d like to have them on the show,” said Kimberly.
“Hmmm,” I thought, trying to figure out how a feel-good story about a pair of preteen do-gooding sisters and their friends fit in with Dr. Laura’s nationally known call-in Sirius XM radio program on which she helps people–and by people I mean grown-up people!–with personal, work, and family problems.
“Can you tell me why Dr. Laura wants to have them on the show?” I asked–feeling at that point that the phone call was either (a) a mistake or (b) a friendly joke. Kimberly then told me about Dr. Laura’s Friday Interview segment–a regular weekly feature that focuses on people Dr. Laura finds inspiring.
Did I mention the interview is LIVE?! Did I mention that it’s 15 minutes long?! Did I mention that neither the girls (nor I) have ever done a radio interview?! Talk about jumping in with both feet!
After listening to several of the Friday Interview segments, we decided to make the most of this amazing national opportunity to spread the word about the USCS Make a Difference Day Almost-Sleepover.
Friday, May 27th was the day…and the girls did a great job! What an experience!
